Survey Information Sheet

Survey Information Sheet

The survey will be completed through Survey Monkey to assure your anonymity. The link to the survey is below.

The number of children growing up outside of their home country is continually growing. An increase in globalisation has resulted in more families moving abroad for greater work and lifestyle opportunities. Often it is the parents’ decision where they live and for what reasons. As there is little research in this area, this study aims to examine some of the ways in which teachers and educators can ensure we are developing well-rounded individuals who will succeed in the future.

As part of my Masters’ Dissertation from the University of Waikato, I am conducting research into the experiences gained from growing up as a Third Culture Kid and how it affects educational choices and career aspirations.

Third Culture Kids are a new concept to most people in the world. As part of my research, I aim to explore their thoughts, feelings and experiences in order to add to the limited knowledge we already have of TCKs. As the World is ever-changing, we need to ensure that we continually have up-to-date research on the issues and experiences of TCKs. As a parent and an educator, I would benefit from having more of an insight into how their experiences could affect the lives of these children. We need to ensure we are raising/developing well-rounded individuals who will succeed in the future.

I would like to invite you to participate in an anonymous survey. The Survey will only take around 10-15 minutes to complete. It is made up of multiple-choice questions and short answer questions.  The survey is currently available and will run until the 20th August 2018.

Please ensure that you meet the following criteria before you proceed with the survey.
You must have lived away from your parents’ home country for a significant period of time (minimum of 5 years) between the ages of 6-18 years.
You must be over the age of 18 years.

The Faculty of Education Ethics Committee at the University of Waikato has approved this study. The findings of this study may be used in oral presentations, seminars, conferences or journal articles. Your identity will remain anonymous and confidential if published. For the purpose of the survey, you will be giving your informed consent by clicking the submit button at the end of the survey. You have the right to withdraw at any point before submitting your answers. You also have the right to refuse to answer any question if you feel you would not like to disclose the information. After your survey has been submitted you will not be able to withdraw your responses.

The research will involve two aspects of collecting information.
Firstly, this short anonymous survey which is what you are looking at now.
Secondly, an online written interview conducted via a Google Doc. If you would be interested in being considered for a written interview, please follow the link below for more details and the invitation to participate https://thirdculturekidresearch.blogspot.co.nz

If you wish to follow up with the result of the study once it is completed, you will be able to find the results posted on this research blog towards the end of 2018.

How you can help...

There are two separate elements to my research. If you would like to help you can do so by completing a short Anonymous Survey or completing a Written Interview , the details of which can be found on the page links above. Please feel free to share my research with other fellow TCKs who may also be willing to help.
